 The
next
day we woke very early for a plane flight to Jodhpur. We had to fly
back to Delhi to change planes because direct service to our destination
was discontinued. We met up with Uncle Eddie in Delhi, and he
continued the trip with us for the next two days. We arrived in
Jodhpur and took a two hour bus ride to Manvar Resort and Camp. Now it was
my turn to be sick. I felt funny just after dinner the
previous night. By midday, I
thought oh, oh and did I get it? By late afternoon, that was
it. I had Delhi Belly the rest of the day. I was mostly better by
the following day. Unfortunately, I was sick the night of New Years
Eve. I had the chills and only blankets and a hot water bottle
for warmth because we slept in tents. When we arrived at Manvar, we took a jeep
ride through the desert to reach the Manvar
Camp.
|
 On the way we
stopped and held baby goats. We also saw antelopes running across
the desert.
|
 We
saw the sunset in the desert. At Manvar Camp tents were set up in a circle.
It looked like my childhood summer camp, Camp Sequoia with out the flagpole. At night we stayed in the tents. The shower was
a pail of water and squirt hose. During the evening's
entertainment, the guests sat on pillows in the sand while appetizers were
passed around. Dinner was held in the main tent.
|
 We
saw a show
which featured traditional
Indian dancing and the ability to balance vases on ones head while standing on a
glass. There were
fireworks at midnight to bring in the new year.
|
 A
peacock walks across the grounds. In the morning we went on
a camel ride.
|
 My
camel wore a flower on its nose. Mounting the camels was an
event. When the camel stands up, the rider must hang on
tightly.
|
 We
were lead along a trail by the camel tender. Hugh and Alex enjoyed the ride.
|
 It's
a long way down from the top of a camel. After the ride we soon left for
the short bus ride back to Jodhpur.
