India  -  Part 14

Mehrangarh Fort.Mehrangarh Fort close up.We visited Mehrangarh Fort, built in 1459, which is located high on a hill.
Mehrangarh Fort.Mehrangarh Fort courtyard. The courtyard area of the fort had ornate architecture.  Another area of the fort still had the charred handprints on the wall of the women who had or were forced into suicide.  The reason for their deaths was that their husbands died and so must they.
View of city of Jodhpur from Mehrangarh Fort.View of city of Jodhpur, shows blue houses, from Mehrangarh Fort.We had a fantastic view of the city.  Jodhpur is known as the blue city because the houses are painted blue with the hope that that will keep mosquitos away.
Reception area at Mehrangarh Fort.Room used as public hall at Mehrangarh Fort.A man who is a descendent of the previous men who welcomed visitors, sat at the reception area.  In the past, this man offered opium to the guests.  A beautiful room served as a place to which visitors were brought.
We stayed at Ajit Bhawan Palace, built for the younger brother of a previous ruler of Jodhpur.  By the way, phur means city.  After dinner and three plates of food, it was Hugh's turn to be sick.  He was able to get onto the bus in the morning, and we rode seven hours to our next destination, Udaipur.
