The next day we saw a few monkeys during the ride to Haridwar. We are still in the city limits of Delhi. We are now pulled over on the side of the road, waiting to pay a tax. During much of the drive, I had my head out of the bus window to watch the street action and take photos. Many interesting road sites can be seen in the countryside. Two men were cutting metal with a hammer and chisel to make a fence. A man was soaped up and washing himself using a hand cranked pump. The morning air was in the low 50s. |
Cow
patties were stacked everywhere. Women were making patties from cow dung by
kneading them with their bare
hands and then setting them out to dry. They use this as a source of
fuel to heat their living quarters and for cooking.
|
On the side of the road, I saw a little boy sitting in a chair getting his haircut. Beds are set up in front of homes with people sleeping outside. |
We saw typical small town streets with people carrying bundles on their heads. A woman sweeps the street with a broom with no handle. All of the brooms I saw had no handles. |
A woman and child are pumping water while some men take their goats for a walk. |
Pigs walk alone and three little girls collect twigs and sticks. We also drove past a miniature horse. |
The roadside rest stop in the Indian countryside is located at the railroad crossing. As cars wait for the train to go by, peddlers try to sell mostly prepared foods and cut up fruits, as well as, whole fruits and vegetables to take home. |
