Our nine hour bus ride the previous day brought us to our first sight of the day, a mountain with two Hindu temples on top called Chandi Devi. |
An enclosed chairlift up the mountain was the best method of transportation to the top where we had a beautiful view of the Himalayan mountains. We were warned to consider bringing cameras with us because the monkeys could grab them from our hands as did this one. He found himself a safe place to rummage through the contents of a bag he had taken. |
We walked past beggars and people selling religious ritual items such as flowers and paints for the head. At the entrance, we took off our shoes and went up to the temple. The religious ring the bell upon entering. We were handed something that looked like white rice krispies. I received a tiny half of a coconut with a flower inside. I think we were supposed to give the offering to the statue. I fed my offering to the monkeys and gave the coconut to a beggar. |
Picture is of the first temple taken from the terrace of the second temple. There were fewer people at the second temple and more monkeys. |
Hugh decided to feed a baby monkey which took the food directly from his hand. Suddenly, the mother came over to attack him. Two Hindu men helped scare them off. |
