Thailand Part 4

We went for a short hike up the rocks on Sail Island.  We boarded the zodiacs and as we approached the island a few small waves rolled in.  My camera got wet and for the next three days it wouldn't shut off.  Finally, it did and seems to be working since it got wet.  It was almost time for a new camera.

Another change in the itinerary.  We had to move the boat further south and dive near Phuket because one of the crew found himself underneath the zodiac and received 3 gashes deep in his arm from the propeller.  He was in a lot of pain so we had to get him back to a hospital.

At Koh Doc Mai (koh means island), we saw a small reef shark among the rocks.  A moray eel had a boxer shrimp with banded hands on its head cleaning the moray.
These nudibranchs were seen at the site.  I went inside a cave to the back wall where there was a second room.  I couldn't go any further because the natural light was fading away fast.
I also saw yellow and black puffer fish.

There were many fish on the King Cruiser Shipwreck.  As I was swimming along the side of the ship, I looked off into the water and saw a huge dark red cloud moving towards us.  I thought I was in a horror movie about to be enveloped by the Krill.  It was krill.  Our group hanging on the line at the King Cruiser Shipwreck site.

At Shark Point a leopard shark, about 5 feet, lay on the ground the entire dive while 2 groups of divers watched and photographed it.
I also saw bubble sea anenomies, scorpion fish, sea fans and red krill.

Anenomie Reef had mostly the beautiful deep blue colored ones.  As I swam towards a large sea fan,  I saw 2 large round eyes peering out a me from behind the fan.  The fish came out from behind the sea fan and I saw that it was a nice size puffer fish.  As I got closer, he went back behind the sea fan.  The red cloud was visible at certain locations during the dive but if we turned away we were able to avoid it.

Diving all week with this bad cold and cough has meant sudafed all week on every dive.  Many times I encountered sinus squeeze and had to punch myself between the eyes in order to descend.  That must have looked odd to the other divers.  The last 2 days of the trip my sinuses kept bleeding but stopped a day after I stopped diving.  Never missed a dive!

Our group for the week was comprised of people from US, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, and England.

The diving portion of this journal ends with a photo of the sunrise as seen from our boat.

Our trip ended and we left the boat on whatever day of the week it was, I had no idea.  We rented a car and I had my chance to drive all day on the "wrong side of the road" with the car steering wheel on the right side of the car.  I kept turning on the window wipers because the directional signal  and wipers were reversed.  All and all it was fun and I had no problems getting used to driving it.  We drove along the coast and saw the rocky islands and beaches of Pucket.  We particularly enjoyed Ya Nui Beach and found it breath-taking.  We saw many tsunami warning signs.  Now we are on the flight to Bangkok to spend a few days there.
