 The
next day we visited the Jim Thompson House. Jim Thompson became
famous as the founder of the Thai silk industry. There was a gift
shop on the premisies and we very much enjoyed shopping there. During
the rest of the trip I found the remaining 3 Jim Thompson silk stores in
Bangkok and made purchases at each. Even at the airport, after being
reimbursed for the VAT tax, I located the last Jim Thompson silk store
just next to the tax reimbursement desk and spent all of my remaining Baht
there.

 We
took the BTS Skytrain, the new elevated train with a similar ticketing system to the
Washington DC metro, to visit the Jim Thompson House. Jim
Thompson was the father of the silk industry in Thailand. There
were beautiful silk items for sale and I did buy a few things.
Next we went to the MBK Mall which is a shopping center with rows and
rows of kiosks. Many were knockoff handbags and t
shirts. Another section had many counters of cell phones, that's
hundreds of square feet of cell
phones. We ate our mandatory coconut for lunch and moved on to
the Siam Center Mall, the new and cool trendy shopping mall. The high end boutiques in this mall seemed
higher priced than the same stores back in New York. Located in
the basement of the Siam Center was the Ocean Aquarium. We
relived our dive trip in the aquarium by taking a glass bottom boat
ride and viewing the many fish. One display we saw was a car turned
into a fish tank. We headed back towards the hotel
and stopped in for a foot massage.
After
dinner we walked down Silom Street which became mini Canal Street, and
reached more of the same at the Patpong Market. Next to the
outdoor stalls, there was a row of girly bars with girls in their
underwear dancing at poles.

 We
passed the Thai version of McDonalds.
The next morning we took the BTS Skytrain to
visit another market.
|
 On
the way we passed the Victory Monument. We walked across one of the
main busy Bangkok roads to reach our destination.
|
The
market was huge with endless rows of clothes, home accessories, and furniture.
Chatuchak
weekend market has over 9000 booths. We walked around for a few hours in the heat,
purchased a few things, ate our daily coconut and then I realized that
my camera had been stolen with all the vacation photos. I can
only hope the salt that was on the electronics is still there and the
camera breaks on whomever. Kind of ruined the day although many
worse things could have happened. We left and on the way back to
the hotel, stopped off for another 1 hour $9 with tip massage.
Back at the hotel, I went for a swim. We went out for a walk,
looked at some stores, had dinner and Harry left at
4am. In the morning I went for a walk in search of Jim Thompson
store #3. They did have more merchandise then the previous
stores. On the way back to the hotel, I stopped in for another foot massage and also had a manicure. Then
it was back to the
hotel to check out and begin 31 hours of travel time home.
Now you know that none of the photos you've
seen here were taken by me. All of the dive trip photos were taken by
Blaine, Imaan, Tim and Anthony. The rest of the photos were found on
the internet. I now have a new camera. I searched all over to
find my old camera which had been discontinued and was lucky to find a
new-old-stock one on ebay.
